Everybody has a story......This is Hannah's
Our much anticipated baby girl, Hannah Grace was born June 18, 2009 weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces. We were thrilled to welcome a beautiful, healthy daughter into our family. Hannah was like any other newborn, sleeping much of the time and eating frequently. By the time she was three weeks old we started to realize that something was different. Hannah would only look to one side and wouldn’t look at any of her toys, us or her big sister, Haley. Hannah had trouble with feedings, and she would cry while trying to take a bottle. After many feedings where Hannah seemed miserable, we eventually discovered that she had trouble controlling the flow, which made eating difficult.
At Hannah’s two month check up, her pediatrician agreed that we needed to look further into our concerns. In that moment, our lives changed forever. Hannah had a head CT done on September 4, 2009. Since it was Labor Day weekend, we had to continue waiting for results. After an excruciatingly long wait, we received the devastating news: Hannah had suffered severe brain damage at some point during the pregnancy. From the moment we heard the news, it has been an ongoing challenge coordinating doctor appointments, tests, and therapies all while questions and uncertainty swirl in our minds. We do not know what caused the brain damage, nor is there a way to fix it. We have been and will continue to search for answers as to why this happened to our baby girl.
